Want to reach out to me?

Rosemary Richings showing an article she wrote. You can contact Rosemary via the details below.

Please note I am a disabled, one-person team. So the best thing you can do is be patient. If I say no or don’t get back to you, it’s nothing personal. I have to choose how I spend my time quite carefully to get anything done. I don’t have the capacity or resources to subcontract work to other people.

If this is an urgent inquiry, please let me know your deadline. Then, I will be able to prioritise you accordingly. Otherwise, give me a few business days to contact you back.

I am not hiring and never will be.

FAQs people have before they contact me

Can I quote a passage from your books in something I am publishing for academic or commercial purposes?

Follow the rules of fair use, otherwise known as fair dealing in the UK. If you do that, you should be able to quote a select few passages without having to pay copyright fees. This University of Edinburgh resource explains quite well what fair dealing looks like. For Studying With Dyspraxia, reach out to Bloomsbury’s permissions department‘s rights and permissions department. For Stumbling Through Space and Time, submit your request via PLS Clear. Then, search for this exact title directly on this platform.

I want to cite a passage from an article you wrote in a project I am working on: Is there anything I need to do?

Once again, the most essential rule to follow here is to follow fair use/ fair dealing rules. If you’re doing that, you shouldn’t even need to contact me to request permission in the first place. However, some of the articles I have written for are American media companies. If it is an American company, find the email of an editor who works there. Then tell them what article you are considering quoting.

Just read something you wrote: could you add a link to my product or service to the article?

Editors tend not to take too kindly to overt endorsements of products or services they don’t have an explicit intention to promote in their publication. So, no, this is not something I can do.

Working together

How long will each project take?

For writing, I do an average of two to three drafts before sending a copy for your approval and review. That timeline is typically one to two weeks from when your project was assigned to me. Although I am open to it much sooner, if you have short turnaround times. Occasionally, when interviews have to be scheduled with other people for the project itself, it can take longer. Especially if there are availability conflicts. If it’s taking longer than expected to secure a source, I will let you know. Then, we’ll collectively decide the best course of action based on your deadline restrictions.

For editing, it depends on the project itself; the longer the document, the longer it will take, and the same goes for how much work needs to be done to have the project ready for the general public. For speaking, I need at least two weeks’ notice about an upcoming event to practice and prepare, and longer for events that are in-person to plan travel accordingly.

If I hire you for your writing work, is there anything I will need to do?

We all have our own tastes and preferences. To avoid thinking exclusively based on taste, think with the goals of your organization in mind for the content itself. Also, consider anything your target audience might vibe well with or not. Have no more than two people giving feedback. One round of revisions only, please, since each draft takes time, and you’re often not my only client or project.
